Metered Power Supply for a Laser Diode

 

As in this episode we will be testing out the metered power supply unit we got from eBay which allows for adjustment of the output voltage and also provides a measure of the current draw. Also the meter does not flash as you see in the video, it is cased by the frame rate of the camera.

2 Watt Laser Cutter and Engraver Project Part 9 – Mounting the Hardware

 

In this episode we mount the end-stops and discuss some modifications we made to the original design we found on Openbuilds.com as well as discuss the new laser (405 nm 500mW) unit as we fried the diode in the 2Watt unit when we where working on the driver board.  It just to show that laser diodes are very picky!  Also if you are interested in this laser, we have put a link below:

2 Watt Laser Cutter and Engraver Project Part 8 – First Test Cuts of Machine!

So we connected the laser and sorted the PWM pin for TYL (the -Z pin) and got the whole thing to work!  It was exciting to see the whole thing work the first go around as we built it all the way up from a 2 watt laser diode to the maker rail motions running GRBL!

Using a Laser to Recycle a Cereal Box Into a Stencil!

In this episode we will use our CNC mounted 2 Watt Laser Diode cutter to recycle a stencil out of an old cereal box! I have this is a great tool for recycle and reuse of things that would normally end up in the trash.  How use care when cutting due to both fumes (which could be toxic) and reflections from shinny surfaces so use care when cutting something new having proper ventilation as wearing the correct safety glasses for your laser!

Probotix Fireball v90 with 2Watt Laser!

In this episode we will fire up the Probotix Fireball v90 with the 2 Watt laser and cut some stuff. We are using the gcode from the J-Tech Photonic Inkscape plug in bu the machine seems to be waiting for several minutes after reach the start position in line 12. Below is the Gcode:
