Design Talk – Predicting the Future with 3D Printing and Zhua Zhou!

In this episode, we will be talking about the design concepts we used to create these Zhua Zhou “coins”. Yet what is Zhua Zhou you ask? Well it originated centuries ago and is a ceremonial is a mash-up of the Chinese words for “pick” and “first anniversary” and represents the “birthday grab” celebration, similar to the Korean “doljanchi” and Vietnamese “thôi nôi.” A variety of (safe) symbolic objects are laid out in front of the baby for it to grab, indicative of potential future careers, and whatever the baby reaches for and plays with could be in the cards for your baby’s employment prospects. It’s also said that the item chosen might indicate future personality types.

With this, instead of “objects” we have designed a set of “icon” based coins yet when we are talking a 1 year safety is important and we discuss the design I ideas used in creating these coins.

CAUTION: These coins are NOT intended as toys especially if left unattended with the child, nor is this video meant to be an all inclusive list design concepts for created infant or child toys and use of these files or ideas at your own risk.
