Spring Holders for QU-BD OneUp / TwoUp DIY 3D Printer Bed Leveling!

In this episode short we build spring caps for the leveler springs of the QU-BD TwoUp DIY 3D Printer to prevent the bed from slipping during rapid moves typically found when doing in fills when 3D printing objects.  You can also find this on Thingiverse at (www.thingiverse.com/thing:1079696)!

2 Watt Laser Cutter and Engraver Project Part 8 – First Test Cuts of Machine!

So we connected the laser and sorted the PWM pin for TYL (the -Z pin) and got the whole thing to work!  It was exciting to see the whole thing work the first go around as we built it all the way up from a 2 watt laser diode to the maker rail motions running GRBL!

QU-BD TwoUp Bed Leveling Spring Holders

So we have been working on the QU-BD TwoUP 3D DIY printer again and one of the thing which we made where retaining cups for the bed springs.  We where having issues with the prints shifting as there was play in the (few thousands of an inch) and when the printer did infills the alignment would jump as the bed shift (assume it slid on the springs).  With any luck this will reduce the issue.  Also keep eye out for a video on this too.

InkScape Workflows to GCode – Cutting a Logo with a Laser!

In this episode we will use the free InkScape application to convert a raster image (PNG in this case) into a vector and than to GCode to cut on our laser cutter.  Worth note is this will also work with other raster image formats such as JPG, GIF and others.  Also this is a workflow video so we will talk about how we several programs to create a “workflow” which gets us to our end product.  In addition, while this will cut on the laser cutter, we could also run the same code and mill this on the CNC machine as well.

1 Inch Project Feet for 1/4 Bolts

In this project we design four 1 inch diameter feet for use with common 1/4 Inch bolts to make adjustable feet for any DIY project you might have.  As we searched Thingiverse and really could not find anything like this.  Worth note, is the adjustable outside is 9/16th of inch while the inside is  slightly over sized of 1/4 inch to allow for epoxy (we recommend JB Weld). As epoxying the bolt head (on all sides lightly) before insertion will make the metal bolt part of the over all structure add greatly to the strength foot and while on the topic would print with at least a 50% in-fill.  Also notice we add support around the bolt head base for extra endurance.

Using a Laser to Recycle a Cereal Box Into a Stencil!

In this episode we will use our CNC mounted 2 Watt Laser Diode cutter to recycle a stencil out of an old cereal box! I have this is a great tool for recycle and reuse of things that would normally end up in the trash.  How use care when cutting due to both fumes (which could be toxic) and reflections from shinny surfaces so use care when cutting something new having proper ventilation as wearing the correct safety glasses for your laser!

Also if you want to try this yourself, check out the link below for a pre-built unit:
