What are Machinist Parallels? In short they are rectangular blocks of metal, commonly made from tool grade steel, stainless steel or even cast iron, which have 2, 4 or 6 ground or lapped faces to a high precise surface finish. They are used by machinists when machining with a mill, drill or any other machining operation which requires the work to be held in a vise or with other forms of clamps to keep work held parallel or raised evenly above the milling vise surface to give adequate height for the cutting tool/spindle to pass over.
